High-Temp Polyimide (PI) Adhesive PCB Labels, Matte/Gloss

High-Temp Polyimide (PI) Adhesive PCB Labels, Matte/Gloss

These are thin, heat-resistant polyimide labels made for printed circuit boards. They stick firmly to board surfaces and survive solder reflow and cleaning processes. Choose matte for low glare and readability or gloss for sharper printing and extra chemical resistance. They resist high temperatures, solvents, and conformal coatings while keeping barcodes, serials, and component IDs clear.

Usage scenarios (3 sentences)

- Use them in PCB assembly lines for identifying boards through reflow and wave soldering, because they tolerate typical soldering temperatures.

- Apply them for tracking, serial numbers, barcodes, and test markers that must survive cleaning, flux, and conformal coating.

- Ideal for automotive, aerospace, power electronics, LED modules, and any electronics that need durable, long-lasting board labeling.

    High-Temperature Durable Adhesive Labels

Born from a precision electronics heritage, our high-temp polyimide (PI) adhesive PCB labels are engineered with specialty substrates and solvent-resistant coatings to withstand reflow soldering and extreme thermal cycling. Available in matte and gloss finishes, Synthetic & Silver Labels deliver crisp barcode readability, excellent adhesion to FR-4 and metal surfaces, and durable chemical and abrasion resistance for long-term circuit board traceability. Key features include up to 260°C short-term heat tolerance, ultra-thin conformability, permanent PI adhesive and clean removability when required—offering OEM-grade reliability, reduced rework, and clear asset identification across harsh manufacturing environments.

    Material introduction

High-temperature polyimide (PI) substrate forms the backbone of these adhesive PCB labels, offering exceptional thermal stability and chemical resistance for use on PCB boards, electronic components, and hot steel. A choice of matte or gloss bright white coating over the PI substrate provides a printable surface for barcodes, serial numbers, and QR codes, while a permanent acrylic adhesive and 80g glassine paper release liner ensure reliable bonding and easy dispensing. Paired with Synthetic & Silver Labels in the same product family, these polyimide labels deliver durable, heat-resistant identification that withstands reflow, cleaning solvents, and harsh manufacturing environments.

    FAQ

    1
What are High-Temp Polyimide (PI) Adhesive PCB Labels and what are typical application scenarios?
These are thin polyimide (Kapton-like) film labels with a high-temperature adhesive designed for PCB identification and tracking. Typical uses: component and board ID for SMT/through-hole assembly, reflow/wave solder process traceability, firmware/serial number labels, high-temp test fixtures, burn-in ovens, conformal-coated boards, repair/assembly markings, and anywhere labels must survive soldering and thermal cycling.
    2
Can these labels survive reflow and wave soldering? What temperature limits should I expect?
Polyimide film itself tolerates very high temperatures, but the adhesive defines the label’s practical limit. Most high-temp PI adhesive labels are specified for lead-free reflow profiles (up to ~260°C for typical short peak durations and a few cycles) and short wave-solder exposure. They will often survive multiple reflow cycles, but extended exposure above ~260–280°C or prolonged immersion in molten solder can degrade adhesion or cause delamination. Always confirm the vendor datasheet and run process qualification tests for your exact profile.
    3
Which printing methods and consumables work best for these labels?
Thermal-transfer printing with a resin or wax-resin ribbon is the recommended method for durable, scannable text/barcodes on PI labels. Resin ribbons give the best chemical and heat resistance. Laser and inkjet printing may be possible on some gloss finishes but are less reliable for high-durability requirements—test before production. For very high-resolution or permanent marks, consider thermal-transfer over resin ribbons or laser ablation/engraving if supported.
    4
What is the difference between matte and gloss versions and when should I choose each?
Matte: lower reflectivity, better readability under variable lighting, easier to write on by hand, and generally good barcode scanning at angles. Gloss: smoother surface, higher contrast for fine printing and photographic quality images, slightly better scratch and chemical resistance in some cases. Choose matte for readability and writing/inspection; choose gloss for highest print resolution and a clean finished look.
    5
How should labels be applied and what surfaces are they compatible with? Are they removable?
Apply to clean, dry, grease-free surfaces (soldermask, FR-4, metals, component housings) at moderate ambient temps (typically 15–35°C). Press firmly (roller or hand press) to ensure full contact and edge seal. Adhesives are formulated to be permanent for reliable traceability—after high-temperature exposure they can be difficult to remove and may leave residue. Removal, if required, often needs heat, mechanical scraping, or solvent-based adhesive removers (test solvents on the PCB and components first).
    6
Do these labels resist chemicals and conformal coatings, and are they electrically insulating?
Polyimide film is chemically and thermally robust and is a good electrical insulator; the labels generally resist fluxes, common solvents, and many cleaning agents, especially when printed with resin ribbons. They usually tolerate conformal coating processes, but coating over labels can change scan/read performance and adhesive edges may lift if coating solvents attack the adhesive—test in your process. Do not rely on a label as the primary dielectric barrier for critical high-voltage insulation applications without specific qualification.
